The NY Magic played their first game of the 2008 season against a W-League newcomer, the Conn. Passion, on Saturday, May 10 at Iona College in New Rochelle, NY.  The Magic held a 2-1 lead until 9 minutes left in the game when the Passion was awarded a penalty kick to tie the game at 2-2.

The CFC Passion forward Fortuna Velaj who scored both of her team’s goals pushed the ball into the Magic net at 6 minutes into the first half of the match and the Passion held the lead throughout the first half.   Magic had several chances to score with shots being taken by new Magic strikers, Gemma Davison from Arsenal Ladies FC and Henry Donna-Kay from New York Magic Super-Y team.

The second half of the match changed the tide for the Magic as the Magic team picked up the pace found their rhythm and dominated the Passion.   The first Magic goal, to tie up the game, was scored by, former WUSA player, Robin McCullough (Carolina Courage), off of a beautiful free kick in 59th minute of the game.    The 1-1 tie game remained the same until the 74th  minute when young Magic forward, Donna Kay Henry tapped the ball into the CFC Passion’s net off oa a beautiful assist from Kristen Turner (Siena College).

As the final minutes of the game were winding down in the (81minute), the referee awarded the CFC Passion a penalty kick and tied game with the score of 2-2.

This coming Saturday, May 17, 2008, the Magic W-League team will face off against a local rival, the Long Island Rough Riders, at Michael J. Tully Field.  Gametime is 5PM.  The Magic looks forward to having a lot of supporters come and cheer on your New...York....Magic!!

The USL Super Y National Championship games will be held in Tampa, Florida from November 15-20, 2007 and the Magic will be there!!

 

A New York Magic team plagued by injuries and missing five starting players could not hold two games over the Memorial weekend after a great victory against the L.I. Rough Riders.

New York Magic tied the Long Island Rough Riders on Wednesday night at St. John’s University Belson Stadium.  The Magic played an excellent defense and dominated the first half of the game.  Magic's Captain, Kanae Haneshi who has been out of commission from a broken clavicle watched the game and noted that,  "we just could not create many chances to score a goal in the second half."   During the second half, Magic had several break aways to get behind the rough riders defenders.  The Magic forwards also had some very close chances but the rough riders held strong.  Magic will play against NJ Wildcats on Saturday at 7pm in NJ. Go Magic!!

 

NY Magic President and team manager Lyndelle T. Phillips was recognized as 2006 United Soccer League (USL) Hall of Famer. Phillips founded the Magic, one of the seven oldest clubs in the history of the W-League.

NY Magic was also recognized as 10+years clubs with Fort Collins Force, Ocean City Barons, and Toronto Lynx. 

 

The NY Magic tryout at Oakwood tournament is changed to Sunday, March 3 from Sunday, March 10th. Please change your calendar and bring your spirit!! 

Some of the current NY Magic players, some of the former NY Magic players, as well as potential NY Magic players compete during the W-League "off season" in the Metroplitan Women’s Soccer League in New York City.  The Magic "Reserves" games are played on Sundays in the fall and spring.  The " Magic Reserves" will also participate in winter indoor tournaments as a tryout opportunity for the 2007 W-League seasn.  Players who are looking for competitive women’s soccer in NYC, please feel free to contact the New York Magic for additional information!! 

The 2007 New York Magic plays our home opening game against Jersey Sky Blue on Saturday, June 2.

The 2007 New York Magic team has played three games so far with a record of 1-2-0. We started our season with a memorable victory over the new local rival, Long Island Rough Riders.  However missing five of the starting players Magic lost two very close games against the Boston Renegades and the Western Mass Lady Pioneers over the Memorial weekend.  The Jersey Sky Blue is coming in New York City with a record of 1-0.

For the 2007 Super Y season, NY Magic has openings for girls on its U-13, U-14, U-15, U-16, and U17 teams

New York Magic Super-Y League players receive top training and an excellent opportunity to compete at the highest levels of youth soccer. The New York Magic organization prides itself on the unique bond between the youth teams and the NY Magic W-League team, the highest level of soccer now available for women in the US. The Super-Y League teams and the W-League team often practice together and will play double-headers during the season.

The New York Magic has scheduled a "Meet the Magic" event on Sunday, January 21, at 2 PM at Tarrytown’s brand new On Track Sports Center.  You are welcome to join the New York Magic Super Y and W-League players....at this fun informational event!

The event is scheduled for Super Y pre-registration and tryout information.  Come out and meet some Magic W-League players and learn about the Super Y summer season.  Players, families and Magic soccer fans are welcome to come out and "Catch  the Magic"!
