The "Magic" Spell Does Not Work on Long Island...

in a Disappointing (1-2) Loss

In a hard fought effort the New York Magic W-League team played the second game of the 2008 season against the local rival team, the Long Island Rough Riders, on Saturday, May 17, 2008.

At the half,  the score was (0-0), and the Rough Riders found the net in the 59th minute of play.  The Magic countered with a well executed goal by English international forward Gemma Davison (Arsenal) when she dribbled outside through the Long Island defense and slipped the ball into the goal at the opposite corner.   Both teams held the (1-1) tie for most of the second half. However, the Magic defense allowed the second Long Island goal into the net after the 80th minute of play.

Magic goalkeeper, Suzanne Baldissard (Iona College), led the Magic defense and made several critical saves during the evenly fought match. Veteran defender Penny Stansfield (Hofstra), also stepped up and led the young Magic defensive line.

On Saturday, May 24 the New York Magic W-League team will face the New Jersey Wildcats at Robbinsville High School in Mercer County at 5 PM. The Magic looks forward to the season’s first victory!!
